Why the network exists
The maritime sector is late to decarbonisation, and the alternative fuels that will power the transition (ammonia, hydrogen, methanol and others) carry safety profiles the industry has limited operational experience with. Evidence is scattered across institutions, and the skills pipeline has not kept pace.
ISMDN closes those gaps by pooling data, capability and people across a global partnership. We treat safety as a design requirement, not an afterthought, and turn shared evidence into a research agenda the whole sector can act on.
How we work
Our work is organised into four interlocking research themes spanning the full fuel value chain, coordinated through a living Research & Innovation Roadmap. Members contribute to and draw from a shared evidence base, events programme and document hub.
