AASTMT hosts the First Egyptian Local Green Port Hub Workshop

29 Apr 2026

ISMDN partner AASTMT convened 40 participants in Alexandria to examine port carbon footprint, alternative fuel infrastructure and safety readiness across the Egyptian maritime sector.

On 29 April 2026, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) jointly organised the First Egyptian Local Green Port Hub Workshop, held within the frameworks of the GREENMEDPORTS project and the International Safer Maritime Decarbonisation Network (ISMDN).

The workshop was held in hybrid format at the AASTMT Abu Kir Campus in Alexandria and engaged 40 recorded participants representing Egyptian port authorities, terminal and logistics operators, governmental and regulatory bodies, academia, training institutions and civil society organisations.

Discussion addressed port carbon footprint assessment, alternative fuel infrastructure and safety readiness, smart port technologies, environmental data gaps, institutional capacity and regulatory frameworks. The stakeholder input gathered supports both the GREENMEDPORTS implementation pathway and the ISMDN research and innovation roadmap for safer decarbonisation.

The activity extends the ISMDN network across the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa, and strengthens the regional evidence base feeding the project gap analysis.
