25 Jun 2026

ISMDN will present 'Systemic Safety Gaps in Maritime Decarbonisation' at the AIChE Annual Meeting 2026, in the Sustainable Maritime Fuels and Safety session in Minneapolis this November.

The International Safer Maritime Decarbonisation Network will present at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Annual Meeting 2026, in the session on Sustainable Maritime Fuels and Safety, held in Minneapolis in November 2026.

The paper, 'Systemic Safety Gaps in Maritime Decarbonisation', introduces ISMDN and reports the first results from its UK Expert Workshop, held at Lloyd's Register headquarters in London on 23 April 2026, which convened twenty-six experts from industry, classification, regulation, insurance and academia.

Authored by Yaser Farag, Sinem Oksuz, Eka Wahyu Ardhi, Cagatay Koksal, Rafet Kurt, Sefer Gunbeyaz, Gerasimos Theotokatos and Osman Turan of the University of Strathclyde, the paper sets out the cross-cutting safety gaps the network is working to close as shipping moves to ammonia, hydrogen, methanol and biofuels.
