Malaysia national committee established for ISMDN

1 Jan 2026

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu has convened a national committee bringing academic, energy, port and shipping expertise into the ISMDN network.

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, the ISMDN partner institution in Malaysia, has established a national committee to support delivery of the project in the region. The committee is led by Associate Professor Dr Kasypi Mokhtar as Project Leader for Malaysia and brings together academic researchers alongside representatives from the energy sector, port operations and the shipping industry.

Committee members contribute professional advice and technical expertise, support the planning of conferences, workshops, seminars and stakeholder engagement activities, and review project progress. The appointments run for the duration of the project, from January 2026 to December 2027, and are made on a voluntary basis.

The committee extends the reach of the network into Malaysian industry and regulatory practice, and supports the regional stakeholder engagement and skills work of the project.

ISMDN is funded by Lloyd's Register Foundation and led by the University of Strathclyde, with nine partner institutions across eight countries. Organisations wishing to join the network can register at ismdn.org/register.
