UMT presents ISMDN's work in Indonesia and China

Prof. Kasypi Mokhtar of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu presented ISMDN's work at Universitas Islam Indonesia on 7 September 2026 and at a workshop on greenhouse gas reduction in Shanghai, held from 18 to 22 October 2026.

On 7 September 2026, Prof. Kasypi Mokhtar of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), an ISMDN partner, spoke on disaster, decarbonisation and environmental risk in the modern supply chain at the UII-UMT Talk, hosted by the Industrial Engineering programme of Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII). The talk brought ISMDN's focus on safer maritime decarbonisation to students and researchers in Indonesia, where the network's partner is Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember.

In Shanghai, he presented "Co-Creating Safe Maritime Decarbonisation in Malaysia Through Collaborative Research" at the Workshop on Industry-Education Integration for Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction, held from 18 to 22 October 2026. The presentation carried the marks of Lloyd's Register Foundation, Shanghai Maritime University, the International Maritime Lecturers Association and UMT. Shanghai Maritime University supports ISMDN's activities in China as a supporting university.

UMT leads ISMDN's engagement in Malaysia. Earlier this year it set up a national committee for the project, with volunteers from the energy, port and shipping sectors, met the Marine Department of Malaysia, and visited Penang Port to see its work on electrified cranes, solar energy and waste management.

ISMDN is funded by Lloyd's Register Foundation and led by the University of Strathclyde, with nine partner institutions across eight countries. Organisations wishing to join the network can register at ismdn.org/register.
